MaREI Programme

MaREI

In the MaREI Centre, students are trained through a four-year programme. In the first year, students will, with their chosen supervisor and stakeholder partner, select and register their PhD project.  They will also pursue a programme of generic and research skills training courses.  In the subsequent three years students will advance and disseminate their research undertaking PhD-specific training as appropriate. In all four years students will participate in, and contribute to, the success of the annual ERBE events. Part-time students will achieve the same training but over an extended time frame.

A concerted approach to their education will be taken across all the MaREI partner institutions. Thus, all students must attend and satisfactorily complete six compulsory modules (Energy Resilience in the Built Environment, Energy Systems, Energy & Buildings, Socio-Technical Perspective, Energy Data & Analysis, Energy & Buildings Modelling) prior to the submission of their thesis. Students will undertake these modules in the institution that they are registered but can also undertake modules in partner institutions if more relevant to their own research or if relevant modules are unable in their own institution.

The research and training experience is a key component of this PhD studentship in the MaREI Centre. The CDT graduates will become leaders in the energy sector and the education they receive during their PhD will best prepare them for the challenges they will encounter on their research journey and as they take their next steps into the sector.
