LoLo CDT congratulates four alumni and numerous academic staff winning multiple awards at the CIBSE President’s Awards dinner earlier this month. The awards celebrated the most highly rated papers published in CIBSE’s Building Services Engineering Research and Technology journal (BSERT) through the presentation of bronze and silver medals.
LoLo alumnus, Dr George Bennett, and Dr Cliff Elwell, Deputy Director of ERBE and LoLo CDTs, were awarded The Carter Bronze Medal for their paper, ‘Effect of boiler oversizing on efficiency: a dynamic simulation study’, which looks at the impact of a traditional tendency to oversize boilers on the efficiency in everyday conditions, which has an impact on comfort and energy use.
‘Predictions of summertime overheating: Comparison of dynamic thermal models and measurements in synthetically occupied test houses’ won the Carter Bronze Medal for best paper, with Dr Ben Roberts (LoLo alumnus) collecting this award on behalf of his co-authors, who included Professor Kevin Lomas (Director or LoLo and ERBE CDT at Loughborough University) and David Allinson.
Dr Jenny Crawley (LoLo alumna and Academic Manager for LoLo and ERBE CDTs), Dr Jez Wingfield and Dr Cliff Elwell received the Napier Shaw Bronze Medal. Their paper ‘The relationship between airtightness and ventilation in new UK dwellings’ investigated the importance of the ventilation strategy in airtightness design and construction.
LoLo alumnus, Dr Samuel Stamp, was a co-author of another winning paper ‘Building performance evaluation: Balancing energy and indoor environmental quality in a UK school building’. The paper, which covers energy and indoor environmental quality in schools, won The Barker Silver Medal award and has already been cited in 10 papers – one of the highest levels of citation in BSERT.
All in all, a huge congratulations to everyone involved, whose awards are a further indication of the consistently excellent, and increasingly important, research our LoLo alumni and academic staff are involved in.
