In pursuing a PhD within ERBE, students are supported by world-leaders in their field working within the very best-funded and equipped research centres. For building energy research, Loughborough and UCL provide the UKs best research environments (REF2014) and MaREI is the National Research Centre in Ireland focussing on energy.

The Centre is managed by academics who have been an integral part of the UK energy and built environment research community for many decades. The Director and Deputy Director in each organisation are supported by Academic Managers who oversee the day-to-day running of ERBE with essential support from our Administrators.

Over 80 research academics are available to supervise ERBE students. This enables a multi-disciplinary perspective to be brought to teaching and research supervision in all three ERBE themes. ERBE students come from diverse backgrounds and bring valuable prior knowledge to their studies. We therefore place great weight on the peer-to-peer support that students give each other.

Research projects may be supported by partners drawn from our diverse stakeholder community, e.g., government, industry, energy, software, charities and research organisations. Partners provide access to information, data, people and places that are otherwise inaccessible. Some partners co-fund student projects and provide a clear route into future employment.

To assuring the strength of the energy and buildings research community, we are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion in all we do. All our staff and students work to create a productive and supportive working environment.
